Best Places to Stay in London | Hotels and Hostels

Hotel room interior with a double bed, silver cushions and lit-up lamps.

Choosing places to stay in London really should depend on a few things…

Budget, length of stay, and what sort of accommodation you’re after.

For something social and a little cheaper on the finances, you can stay in youth hostels for around £25 or so a night.

If it’s something more homely you’re after, you can rent a room/flat with Airbnb.

Or you have a big choice of London’s luxury hotels to choose from.

I tend to select my accommodation based on the occasion.

If I have friends over for a boozy weekend, we’ll usually book a hostel just to save cost, but for other occasions it’s usually just a simple 3 or 4 star hotel.

Though one thing for sure is that location takes priority.

Which is the best location to stay in London?

For tourists, your best bet will be the West End (WC postcode), as it’s where the majority of the city’s star attractions are. It’s also where you’ll find a good chunk of London’s nightlife.

Though staying anywhere reasonably central is ideal. All of the following postcodes are good locations – EC, WC, E1, N1, W1, SE1.

Low-budget Places to Stay in London

Wombat’s Hostel, Shoreditch E1 8LL ★★

Probably not the most cockney-sounding place, but Wombat’s is considered one of the top hostels in London. The dorms hold the standard bunks, but each includes a light, and a USB port. The rooms are very clean and also include the luxury of an en-suite toilet and shower (any hostel dweller knows this is a big deal!). The rooms also include lockers, which you can open using the same card key to access the dorm – so no need to bring a padlock. The hostel has an awesome downstairs bar, and a breakfast area where you can enjoy an all-you-can eat brekkie for around £5. It has a good city location, being only a 10-15 min walk from the Tower of London and Tower Bridge. It’s also a short walk from trendy Shoreditch. Free WIFI, city map, and even a free welcome drink when you arrive! (Price: $35+ a night).
